What Are Some of the Main Challenges?
Almost all businesses in every province and territory in Canada must register with their respective Workers Compensation Board. Essentially, Boards are provincially-administered, no-fault insurance providers. The employers are the plan sponsors, and they remit premiums to their respective Board based on the number of lives and the corresponding insurable earnings. The Boards provide several benefits and services, including loss–of-earnings/wage-loss benefits, health benefits, claims adjudication, case-management, return-to-work, vocational rehabilitation, health-and-safety programming, etc. While they seek to render accurate adjudicative decisions, and while they facilitate return-to-work, opportunities to optimize these areas exist. The opportunity to appeal claims decisions also exists, especially when there is no established mechanism-of-injury (MOI) and/or when there is no identifiable source-of-injury (SOI). - The employer administers first aid.
- The employer immediately offers suitable modified duties.
- The employer completes the incident/accident-details report.
- The employer provides our information package to the employee.
